How to Apply and What to ExpectApplying Online - Cover Letters, Resumes and InterviewsCheck out our tips to help ensure your cover letter and resume are complete! Getting StartedGet your OPG Profile Account to stay linked to all our opportunities. OPG's virtual career centre enables you to create your own personal online career profile. Your profile is your opportunity to post your resume and cover letter online, indicate your career preferences and identify the type of work you're looking for, including desired positions, work locations, as well as travel and shift preferences. If there are no opportunities that interest you when you first visit the site, simply create a general profile to get future posting notices. Once your profile is complete, the automated system will notify you by email of any openings that match your indicated preferences. After establishing your personal password, you'll be able to return to the site at any time to retrieve your profile for easy editing. Creating your profile will take about 15 - 20 minutes of your time, saving you the trouble of keying in your information for every posting you apply for. Tips for Cover Letters and ResumesCover Letters – Cover letters give us a more personal insight into an individual, so remember that you’re creating an important first impression through what you write! Use the opportunity to tell us why you are applying and how you think you fit into the role you are applying for. Include a very brief overview of your qualifications, identifying your extra-curricular activities or past leadership activities. Resumes – Resumes should highlight your key accomplishments and clearly communicate what you have achieved in your academic career. Ensure you save your resume in simple text (txt) format, and you remove all formatting such as bold, bullets and underlines. These do not show up well on our system. In place of bullets use asterisks (*). Once you have accessed the website, click on the “Graduate Opportunities” link and you will be able to view all available new graduate jobs. All applicants must be eligible to work in Canada and must be a recent or soon-to-be graduate in the required disciplines listed in the posting. Step 2: Navigate to the appropriate job posting. Postings will be listed by geographic location and business unit. Ensure you read the posting carefully and review the entire Graduate website to be familiar with the position, the business unit and the opportunity. Also, ensure that you have answered ALL prescreening questions accurately. NOTE: Please submit an application for each opportunity that interests you. Step 3: Meet our staff and get to know more about our organization. Where possible, make a date to attend a career fair on campus or information session hosted by OPG. Check out our calendar of events to find out where we will be. Step 4: Apply by October 7, 2007. Cut and paste your resume into the system. If you do not have a prepared resume, you may use the resume builder to create a resume. Be sure to include a cover letter. We do read these! OPG Managers will review all submissions and short-list applications for interviews. Interviews will take place during the month of November. Most interview invitations will be sent via email. Please ensure that the e-mail address you provide in your on-line application is relevant and be sure to check it often following submission of your application. Step 5: Prepare for interviews. While our business units may have different selection processes, they will most likely all include elements of behaviour-based interview techniques. This technique explores candidates’ past experience as a predictor of future on-the-job success. Please visit your campus career centre for more information on this type of interview and to prepare appropriately. Note: Our Nuclear Business Unit has designated November 6th, 7th, and 8th as their group recruitment event. If you are selected for an interview, you will be required to travel to our Pickering facility. Step 6: We begin our offer making process in early December, and continue over the following months to secure all necessary staff. If you have not heard by early December, do not lose hope as offers continue to be issued as our business needs evolve. Start dates are flexible upon graduation. If you are already a graduate, some opportunities to start early in the new year are also possible. |
