Who is Ontario Power Generation?

I cannot find the job I'm interested in on your job board. What types of positions are available?

All opportunities at OPG - regardless of its Location, Status (full-time, part-time) or Type (professional, trades, student, co-op, summer, etc.) - are posted online at www.mypowercareer.com. All applications are received online. We do not accept applications by mail, fax, or email.

Positions are organized into four main categories: Experienced, New Graduate, Trainee & Apprenticeship, and Student & Co-op Placements. Depending on which of the four categories you select, you may have more sub-categories from which to select.

If you are interested in a specific job at OPG, and you do not see that job posted today, please bear in mind that what you see posted online today is only a snapshot of what is currently available. OPG's staffing requirements do vary from time to time according to business needs, therefore we suggest that you continue to visit the site for exciting new opportunities.

In the interim, our advice to you is to create your own personal career profile --- which includes storing a copy of your resume online --- through our virtual career centre at www.mypowercareer.com. See section 1 of this email for more information on the benefits of submitting your career profile to OPG's virtual career centre.

How do I find out the status of my application?

All applications are automatically acknowledged by an email receipt within 24- 36 hours following submission. Regrettably, we are unable to respond to inquiries regarding the individual status of applications.

Should your qualifications meet the stated requirements of the vacancy for which you have applied, a member of our recruiting team will contact you. Given the volume of applications we receive, we regret that only those applicants selected for an interview will be contacted. Timing for interviews is also influenced by the volume of applications we receive in concert with the timeline requirements of the posting itself, which varies from job to job.

How do I apply?

Online only. It's easy. Just go to the Powerful Opportunities section of this website, www.mypowercareer.com. There you will find information on what we do, how we do it and where you might fit in.

O.K., now what do I do?

From the Powerful Opportunities page, click on job list most appropriate to your current situation (e.g. Experienced, New Graduate, Apprentice/Trainee, or Student), select the job you are interested in and click "Apply Online".

Select "I am a new user", then enter your e-mail address and a confidential password that will allow you to access your profile at any time. Be sure to enter your email address accurately; it will serve as both your username for future logins, and the address to which all system-generated correspondence will be sent (e.g. application acknowledgements, password resets, etc.)

Next, you will answer a few simple questions, cut and paste or build your résumé and complete a profile that outlines your job preferences. Once this is finished, and you see a message thanking you for your application, you're done!

Can't I apply any other way?

No. We do not accept applications by mail, fax, or e-mail. All opportunities at OPG are posted online, and all applications are received online. Everything you need to get started is here at www.mypowercareer.com. It's the easiest and fastest way to find out about all that OPG has to offer.

OPG's virtual career centre enables you to create your own personal online career profile. Your online career profile is your opportunity to not just store a copy of your resume and cover letter online, but also indicate your overall career preferences. By indicating your career interests, you are able to indicate such things as the type of work you're looking for, work locations, travel and shift preferences, etc. Once complete, the automated system will then notify you by email of any specific openings matching your indicated preferences as they are posted.

All you need to start is an email address, and if you don't have one there are numerous sites on the web that offer free email services (eg. www.myway.com, www.mail.com, www.hotmail.com, www.yahoo.ca, www.canada.com ). After establishing your personal password, you'll be able to return to the site at any time to retrieve your profile for easy editing. You'll find creating your profile will take about 15 - 20 minutes of your time, and the time spent the first time around will pay off on future applications as there'll be no need to re-key in everything all over again.

Can I submit a general profile?

Yes, you can. In fact, we highly recommend it if there is nothing available TODAY that suits your needs at OPG.

To begin, go to Powerful Opportunities, and click "Submit Your Profile".

Select "I am a new user", then enter your e-mail address and a confidential password that will allow you to access your profile at any time. Be sure to enter your email address accurately; it will serve as both your username for future logins, and the address to which all system-generated correspondence will be sent (e.g. application acknowledgements, password resets, etc.)

Next, you will answer a few simple questions, cut and paste or build your résumé and complete a profile that outlines your job preferences. Once this is finished, and you see a message thanking you for your application, you're done!

Can I make changes and/or apply for another position?

Yes. You can update your application at any time as long as it is posted. Once it expires, you will not be able to access your application to make further changes.

You may also apply to as many jobs for which you are duly qualified. If you want to apply for a different job, simply log in as a "Returning User" and re-apply.

Your profile you may update at any time so you will be sure that we always have your most current information on file.

I'm having trouble accessing a job posting on your site. Screen won't advance. What do I do now?

We apologize for the difficulties you are experiencing accessing our site. OPG's jobs database is powered by a web-based software application called Taleo (formerly known as Recruitsoft), and has a guaranteed up-time of 99.9%. A very small percentage of visitors to our site experience difficulties accessing our jobs database, and for most, these technical difficulties are specific to the user's PC settings or software used, and as such, easily overcome. Among the most commonly reported problems involve the user's PC referencing old files (instead of current files) when accessing our careers site. This barrier is quickly resolved by clearing the PC's cache settings.

How do I unsubscribe from receiving Job Posting Notifications?

This setting is under your control. If you no longer wish to receive job match notifications, please log into your candidate profile in the Powerful Opportunities section, and then following this path:

Submit/Modify Your Profile > I am a returning user > Enter email address & password

Proceed through the first few pages and you will find this page (5 of 9): "Accept invitations by email on career opportunities matching this profile".

To deactivate job posting notifications, deselect the checkmark to stop receiving job matches. To reactivate, follow this exact same process except add the aforementioned checkmark.

How do I have my profile deleted from your database?

Thank you for your interest in OPG. While we're sorry to see you go, OPG respects your privacy. To delete your profile, simply send an email to mypowercareer@opg.com with "Delete Career Profile Request" in your subject line.

Your profile will be permanently deleted within two business days. An email notifying you that your request has been completed will be sent to the reply email address from which your request was made. Please understand that all applications belonging to your profile (email address) will be deleted in this process. If all you want is to no longer receive job posting notifications, please see the preceding FAQ for instructions on deactivating this feature.

How do I change my email address?

Send an email to mypowercareer@opg.com with the subject line "Email address change", and in the body, list your new email address. As per your request, your profile will be changed to your new email address within two business days. An email notifying you that your request has been completed will be sent to the reply email address from which your request was made. Please watch for this email as it will contain instructions on resetting your password. For security reasons, your old password will not work with your new email address. You must reset it.

How do I change or reset my password?
    1. Return to www.mypowercareer.com
    2. Click on Submit/Modify Your Profile.
    3. In the second box, marked "I am a returning user ...", enter ONLY your email address. Do NOT enter a password at this stage.
    4. Click on the "Forgot Your Password" link. In a few minutes, you will receive an email with an Access Code enabling you to set your new password.
    5. Follow the instructions in the email to complete the process.
