Safety is one of our fundamental values – it is key to our culture and vital to our success. In 2008, OPG received the Canadian Electricity Association's Gold President's Award of Excellence in recognition of three consecutive years of top-quartile employee safety performance.
OPG is also a proud supporter of PassPort to Safety, which provides young workers with a challenging and educational Internet-based quiz aimed at improving general safety awareness. We ensure all of our workers – both new hires and experienced – have the skills and training they need to perform their jobs safely. Community Responsibility

Sustainable Development
At OPG, we believe that being good corporate citizens means keeping the environment at the forefront of our work practices. We are continuously striving to find better ways to decrease our impact on air and water quality. Right now, we are working towards converting our Fossil-fuelled stations to burn biomass. In 2008, approximately 72 per cent of OPG's electricity production was derived from Hydroelectric and Nuclear sources that are virtually free of air emissions causing smog, acid rain and global warming.
