Students - Student Community

At OPG, we want students to feel welcomed into our community. With over 500 students working with us each year in Summer, Co-op/Developmental, Internship and Articling positions, we encourage a culture that is focused on connecting, continuous learning and fun.

At the beginning of their work term, students are invited to an orientation session, where Corporate Human Resources introduces the Student Program. At the orientation, you will learn about OPG's corporate-wide, site-specific and student-initiated activities, which may include:

  • lunch & learn sessions, where guest speakers deliver presentations that may be related to the energy industry, career progression or preparing for full-time work after school;
  • station tours of our work sites across the province;
  • student-organized social activities during off hours; and
  • annual student charity events – like tree planting or a book drive for Aboriginal communities – where everyone is welcome to participate in choosing a new charitable event each term.

All OPG students complete Passport to Safety, an on-line training program to enhance fundamental safety knowledge of our students to better prepare them to enter the workforce as safe employees.

Note: Participation in some of our student activities may not be possible for students in our remote locations.

Meet Some Of Our Students

Participation in any of our student activities is voluntary, but we do encourage all students to get involved so they can achieve the greatest benefit from their work terms at OPG.

Students are also invited to participate in any OPG employee activities and events that occur during their time with us, as well as enjoy employee discounts. This can include OPG Family Day, a Christmas Party, discounts on cell phones and movies, to name a few.

For a better sense of student life at OPG, view our Student Newsletters – which are produced by a team of students each term.
