Position Overview

Inspection & Maintenance (I&M) Technicians work 8-, 10- or 12-hour shifts and must be prepared to be on duty any hour of the day.

I&M Technicians have two distinct work periods over the course of the year. Approximately seven months of the year are associated with direct application of their Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) certifications and qualifications in the stations, either as part of daily plant operations or through planned unit maintenance outages. During these periods, the work day focuses on performing either examination or maintenance activities in accordance with prepared procedures and techniques to either identify a material condition that may impact on safe station operation or to remove the condition. I&M Technicians need to be comfortable in communicating results and working with a team of between four and 30 people, depending on the inspection being performed.

The remaining part of the year, I&M Technicians are involved in a number of activities as assigned by their supervisor, some of which are identified below.

Specifically, you will:

  • prepare or review NDE procedures or techniques;
  • assist NDE System Engineers in the care and control of NDE equipment by performing maintenance, functional testing, and calibration of NDE equipment;
  • assist in the development and testing of new specialized inspection and/or maintenance techniques, procedures and tooling;
  • conduct Non-Destructive Examinations on various components (i.e., welds, supports, lifting equipment) using Radiography, Ultrasound, Eddy Current, Surface and/or Optical/Visual methods;
  • analyze inspection data and assess the results of NDEs, and prepare reports of findings;
  • assist in the preparation of detailed inspection reports and visual aids for presentations;
  • operate and maintain a radiographic facility or other NDE workshop equipment;
  • prepare techniques, work packages, and tooling in preparation for the next inspection outage cycle; and
  • prepare and conduct training activities in specific areas to qualify personnel in activities and procedures.
