General Application Process

Creating a profile allows you to store your resume and cover letter and indicate your career preferences. It will also allow us to e-mail you about new vacancies in your field as they become available. It is the best way to be informed of job opportunities at OPG. Please note that, while completing a profile is an essential part of applying for a specific position, the profile itself is not considered an application. You must complete the full online application for each position that is of interest to you.

Apply online

Apply to each vacancy that interests you. Fill out the pre-screening questionnaire and submit a resume and cover letter online. Note: Some aptitude testing for certain Skilled Trades positions may be required.

Interview process

OPG will carefully review each applicant's qualifications and contact selected candidates for an interview. Successful candidates will be made a conditional job offer.

Security check/medical clearance

A full security check and medical clearance will be conducted. Job offer conditions are removed only if you are cleared to work at an OPG facility.

Details For Skilled Trades Positions

If you meet the selection criteria, you may be invited for testing. Should you successfully pass these tests, you may be invited to an interview.

Note: While these are not tests for which you can study, if you would like to become familiar with these types of aptitude tests, you should visit the SHL website.

Details For Security Positions

If you meet the selection criteria, you may be invited for fitness testing as well as initial psychological and aptitude testing. Should you successfully pass these tests, you may be invited to an interview. OPG does not provide its testing criteria to applicants in advance.

Note: This process only applies to the Security Positions at our Nuclear generating stations.

Details For Foreign-Trained Applicants

Foreign-trained applicants are welcome at OPG. Please have your credentials assessed by a regulatory body, and indicate your equivalency information when you apply online.

Cover Letter Tips

Cover letters give us a more personal insight into an individual, so remember that you're creating an important first impression through what you write!
We read every cover letter, so use this opportunity to tell us why you are applying and how you think you fit into the role for which you are applying. Include a very brief overview of your qualifications, identifying your extra-curricular activities or past leadership activities.
Ensure your cover letter is tailored to the specific job for which you are applying, as this gives us better information for making a decision, rather than having a generic cover letter.

Resume Tips

Resumes should highlight your key accomplishments and clearly communicate your academic and work achievements.
Ensure you save your resume in simple text (.txt) format, and remove all formatting such as bold, bullets, and underlines, as these do not show up well on our system. In place of bullets, use asterisks (*). For a sample of a simple text resume, click here.
You may use the resume builder to create a resume.
There are many types of resumes and we don't have a preference for any particular style – just as long as you clearly indicate your experience through work or extra-curricular activities, as well as your education.

Interview Tips

Many interview notifications are sent via e-mail, so ensure that your e-mail address is accurate when submitting your application online.
Prepare for interviews and ensure you do your research about the organization.
While our business units may have different selection processes, they will most likely all include elements of behaviour-based interview techniques. This technique explores candidates' past experience as a predictor of future on-the-job success.

These experiences do not necessarily need to be in a work environment but they do need to be relevant to the question asked. Example: A stay-at-home mom has project management experience.
You may want to visit a local job centre or a campus career centre for more information on behaviour-based interviews, to help you prepare appropriately.
